Formula: For men BMR = 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) - 5 x age - 5. For women BMR = 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) - 5 x age - 161. BMR is then multiplied by activity factor: Sedentary (desk job) x 1.2, Light exercise (1-3 days/week) x 1.375, Moderate (3-5 days) x 1.55, Very active (6-7 days) x 1.725, Athlete x 1.9. This gives TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). For weight loss subtract 500 calories per day (lose 0.5kg per week). For weight gain add 500 calories per day (gain 0.5kg per week).
