Bellows Breath (भस्त्रिका, Bhastrikā) is a intermediate level pranayama practice taking 5 minutes. Body parts: lungs, abdomen, core, brain. Benefits: Powerfully oxygenates the blood. Burns calories through vigorous breathing. Clears sinuses and respiratory passages. Energizes entire body — combats fatigue and depression. Increases metabolic rate. Strengthens lungs and diaphragm. How to do Bellows Breath: Sit in padmasana or sukhasana, spine erect. Take a deep breath in and exhale completely. Begin forceful inhale AND forceful exhale through nose. Both inhale and exhale are active (unlike kapalbhati). Rate: 1 cycle per second. Start with 10 strokes, build to 30 per round. Do 3 rounds with 30-second rest between. Breathing: Both inhale and exhale are active and forceful. Equal effort both ways.. Conditions it helps: weight-loss, stamina, fatigue, sinus, concentration, depression.
